UK Citizenship Test Preparation Course
This is a test of knowledge about life in Britain for people who want to apply for British citizenship. It tests such things as the education system, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, basic facts of British history and culture. To take the test, you need to have an intermediate level of English, but you don¡¯t have to pass a separate language test ¨C if you can understand and pass the citizenship test, that is enough.
The test consists of 24 questions based on chapters 2, 3 and 4 of 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship.' It takes 45 minutes. You can buy 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship for ¡ê9.99 from The Stationery Office or from bookshops across the UK. Most of the questions will be about the UK as a whole, but there may be some specific questions about the region of the UK that you live in.
Excel College can prepare you in an interesting and stimulating way to take this test. During the course you will learn the vocabulary you need to deal with the questions as well as the knowledge of Britain and its institutions. Visits to places of cultural and civic importance will also be an important part of the course. Students will be encouraged to discuss and express their opinions about the UK freely and openly. University of Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET)
This is an afternoon or evening course. The teacher is an experienced and highly qualified teacher and examiner. All materials are included in the price.
PET is an intermediate level exam and is the second level Cambridge ESOL exam. It is at Level B1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Studying for PET is an effective way to improve your language skills and use them in a wide range of situations. PET covers the four main language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking, and uses material from real-life situations. It provides evidence of practical skills, and shows that you have sufficient ability to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs, and in many industries, such as tourism, where contact with English speakers is needed.
There are three sections to the test:
- Reading and Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
PET is recognised by employers in many countries and by universities in some countries, as an initial qualification in English.

University of Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)
This is an afternoon or evening course. The teacher is an experienced and highly qualified teacher and examiner. All materials are included in the price.
FCE is an upper intermediate level exam, at level B2 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
To pass FCE, you need to have an extensive vocabulary, and be able to construct an argument and use the right kind of language for a range of situations. You also need to show that you understand the importance of register so that you can adapt the way you speak and write to suit the context.
FCE is ideal if you want to work or study abroad because it is internationally recognised. It can help to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, engineering). FCE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries, in particular tourism, where contact with English speakers is required. Successful candidates will be able to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and simple textbooks and articles.

University of Cambridge Advanced English Examination (CAE)
This is an afternoon or evening course. The teacher is an experienced and highly qualified teacher and examiner. All materials are included in the price.
CAE is the second highest level Cambridge ESOL exam, at level C1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You should consider taking CAE if you are reaching a standard of English that is adequate for most purposes, including social and professional situations, and in higher education.
CAE recognises the ability to communicate with confidence in English and deal with most aspects of everyday life. It is probably the most popular Cambridge exam today.
Studying for CAE will help you to improve your language skills and use them in a very wide range of situations. The exams are based on realistic tasks, and test the ability to use the English language in practical contexts. If you are successful, you will be able to take an active part in meetings and discussions, express your opinions clearly, and be able to understand and produce texts of various types, including business letters and reports. You'll also be more than capable of following university courses taught in English.

CPE is the highest level Cambridge ESOL exam, at level C2 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. If you are able to function effectively in almost any English-speaking context and are approaching a level of English similar to that of an educated native speaker, then this is the exam for you.
CPE is ideal if you want to work or study abroad, or to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, and engineering). If you pass the exam, you'll receive a certificate awarded by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations. CPE is recognised by thousands of universities and employers all over the world.

ILEC Preparation Course
This is an afternoon or evening course for students and professionals in the field of law. The tutor is a qualified teacher of English as a second language with extensive practical experience in legal matters.
The International Legal English Certificate is designed for lawyers and legal staff who use English in their professional life.
