INTERNATIONAL LEGAL ENGLISH CERTIFICATE

The speed of globalisation is having a major impact on the practice of law. To compete, law firms must offer their services in English as well as the local language. The English language skills of a firm’s lawyers make a difference not only in the results they achieve but also in the impressions they make on their clients, which help form the basis of the firm’s reputation.
Furthermore, the competition for jobs is becoming more and more intense. Law firms and other legal employers now look for legal professionals with a solid command of English. Many firms say that, along with a candidate’s academic qualifications, work experience, and personality, their language skills are a crucial factor when selecting the right person.
The Cambridge ILEC certificate gives job seekers a competitive advantage in the job market by providing non-native English speakers with an internationally-recognised legal language skills certification.
An ILEC certificate also shows that the holder possesses the language skills needed to perform well in studies in law which include a significant English language content, whether the studies are in their own country or abroad.
Excel College will be offering preparation classes specifically for the ILEC from July 2007. Students who would like to combine this class with the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) can benefit from a discount. For further information, contact Dennis or Leo on 0161 236 5551.

The test is held twice a year, in May (London) and November (Cambridge)
